The Indian Education System

The modern education system of India is based on Marksheet and Degree, rather than skill and knowedge development. Majority of the educational institutes focus on marks and ignore the talent and skills a young child posseses. As we have seen in the popular Bollywood movie, 3 Idiots, the Indian Parents are more consered with grades and salary package. Due to this the students like the leading characters, kill their passion and take admissions in Engenierring and Medical Colleges

As a student I have also seen my friends giving up their passion and interest because of the parental and socital pressure. But I find myself very obliged to choose my passion and study something I love. The institutions should understand that the books are not the source of real education.

There are many developed countries Canada , US, Germany ,who have better education system than India. Due to this Degree oriented education system, the issues like educated unemplyment are also increasing.

Education plays a very important role in the development of a nation. Hence, it should be knowlege oriented and along with marks, the character and skill development of students should be focused. With the introduction of the New Education Policy(NEP 2020), the scenario is changing. Under this policy the government of India aims to achieve 100 % Gross Enrollment Ratio across all levels by 2030.

The NEP consists of various points which would focus on skill enhancement and overall development of students. Some of them are:

  • Universal Access- The NEP enusres that all children have access to quality education from pre primary to grade 12
  • Early Childhood care and Education-It extends the Right To Education eligibility from 6-14 to 3-18 years.
  • New Curriculum and Pedagogy in School-  The New Education Policy encourages local languages to be the medium of instruction at least up to Grade 5 and it also  promotes bi-lingual education and textbooks for learning.
  • Testing and Assessments- It Promotes  formative assessments , peer assessment, and holistic progress reports, to measure the ongoing academic progress of the children.
  • Equitable and inclusive educationSpecial Education Zones (SEZs) and Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs)/KVs to be set up in aspirational districts, with targeted focus on improving the quantity and quality of learning
